Tom Sterner Bio and Book Sketch:

From the book’s Introduction

“The ability to develop any skill as swiftly as possible with the least amount of effort, and even to experience inner peace and joy in the process, is in fact a skill itself, and one that requires constant practice to become an effortless part of who we are.”

“When we learn to embrace the process of achieving our goals instead of being fixated on the moment we reach our goal we have gained a new skill. And once mastered, it is magical and incredibly empowering.”

Summary

The Practicing Mind teaches us why our minds are so scattered with too many unrelated thoughts, why we feel impatient to reach our goals, why we long for a state of perfection that doesn't exist, and how to overcome these crippling mindsets so that our goals flow toward us with effortless ease.

Neurological studies are showing that though we are gaining the ability to think faster in order to cope with our hyper-paced world, we are losing the ability to be contemplative and to focus our mind on any one task at a time.

The Practicing Mind discusses tools to help us be aware of when we are participating in this exhausting paradigm, how we have gotten to this point and how to free ourselves from such an unproductive way of living our lives.

Tom Sterner Bio

Over forty years ago Thomas Sterner began studying both Eastern and Western philosophy while in his late teens, moving into modern sports psychology and peak performance studies in his late twenties. Born out of an awareness of his lack of long term mental stamina in any endeavor growing up Sterner embarked on a quest as he entered college to make focus and discipline a natural part of how he handled any new skill development and any challenge he faced in life.

An accomplished musician and trained as a high level concert piano technician, Sterner’s skills were tested daily for over 25 years in his work for a major performing arts center. Preparing instruments for hundreds of demanding  world- renowned  musicians and conductors required that he not only constantly interact with highly disciplined performers but also to perform monotonous but complex motions with precision on the instrument thousands of times in the course of a work week. Being disciplined and focused were his key to survival, and became his joy.

Since the release of the first edition of his book “The Practicing Mind” the simple concepts put forth in his book have drawn praise from many professionals including athletes, musicians, entrepreneurs and corporate business people alike. He has been interviewed worldwide and been invited to speak everywhere from New York financial institute board rooms to universities campuses and “new thought” institutions. The second edition of his book published in 2012 by New World Library is now finding international acclaim through distribution in multiple languages.

New developments

The release of The Practicing Mind iOS app will be available before the end of 2013. Thomas Sterner is also working in cooperation with Flow Media TV on a new product based on his teachings and lectures. Updates can be found on his website www.thepracticingmind.com
